Sailrigs
pelicansurf.jpg (9459 bytes)The Delta Swivelrig sail
*A sail that allows you to sail and paddle together
*That reduces the leverage exerted by most other sails
*That can be collapsed if needed

This fully collapsible 1.6 m2 sailrig is ideal for sail assisted trips, expeditions and just leisurely cruising your favourite coast on a Sunday afternoon. This relatively small sail can generate enough power to move you along in excess of normal paddling speeds. The advantage is that it is still manageable in more adverse wind and sea conditions. You can de-power the rig to such an extent that it will only provide limited assistance even if the wind speed is in excess of 20 knots. The rig does not interfere with your paddling stroke.
The sail is in neutral when it is totally horizontal. In this position it extends to beyond the paddler and provides for a much appreciated sunshield. In this position it is possible to even paddle upwind with very little drag experienced from the sail. To dial in power simply pull down the front of the sail, release the two sides and re-cleat all lines. The central pivotal point allows for endless angles and positions. Where other sails would have stalled and started flapping this one will happily continue providing lift.

Features
Very short mast
Three control lines feeding into a control panel
Full paddling stroke possible with the sail rigged
The sail stays rigged when there is no wind
Provides a wonderful sunshield
Easy to power and de-power the rig
Possible to use from 0% to 100% of the sail power
Upwind sailing possible without leeboards or daggerboards

Construction
Ripstop Nylon cloth, machined HTPE for the joins, Aluminium spars and mast, Clip-on deck rigging.

Deck rigging
First we install a fixed mast holder on your kayak. For this we would need to drop a solid fibreglass sleeve through the deck of your kayak and fix it to both your deck and hull of the kayak. This is the most secure way of attaching the short unstayed mast.

The cleat box is just that - three cleats held together with webbing to ensure a perfect fit to all deck cambers. The three pulley points often coincide with existing handle and deck rigging attachments, or new points can be added to your kayak with the additional saddles supplied with the sail. As the sail power is spread over the mast and three attachment points the deck-mount points need not be further strengthened. The three lines off the sail are clipped on and work through a cleat panel. This also attaches to existing deckmount points.

For kayaks where it is not possible to secure the mast holder we have a deckmount that attaches to the top of the deck and strapped around the hull. A number of short lines stabilise the short mast. This hinged mount will fit all decks - irrespective of deck camber.

Also available in a 2.7m2 size - not for the faintharted! The larger sail is only recommended for large double kayaks, outrigger or catamaran configurations. The power this rig generates is well in excess of any standard 4m2 rig.

Spraydecks
spraydeck.jpg (4481 bytes)Spraydecks are there to provide a reasonable seal between the cockpit of the kayak and you. The key to a good spraydeck is a good fit, with no extra material that will form huge dams around you.

Kaskazi Nylon Deck has been cut to fit the Kaskazi cockpit shape. Nice fit, with a large front pocket with a velcro closure for those loose items that always seem to get washed off the deck. One size fits all, but we can custom make decks as well. Very competitively priced.boatbag.jpg (3351 bytes)

Cockpit Covers: A spraydeck without a hole! For when the kayak is not in use. Keeps the bugs out when you are storing the kayak, also keeps rain out of the kayak. The cockpit cover acts as a fuelsaver when transporting the kayak on your vehicles roof.

Safety Equipment
Safety equipment can be separated into signaling devices, rescue equipment
and navigational aids. Here are a few versatile items.

Kaskazi Rescue bag
An all-in-one waistband towrope - throwbag. A 10m throwbag attached by velcro to an elasticated waistband with a quick release buckle. This can function as both a more traditional throwbag, or as an all-in-one towrope. This is also ideal for river guides and sea and river kayakers who are serious about safety. Unlike many other systems this one requires only a single handed approach, it can be passed between paddlers, can be used for both water based rescues and those performed from the river bank or shore and it is not linked to your PFD. The stretch in the waistband is essential for towing over any distance. We have also found it extremely useful for hauling fully loaded kayaks over sandbanks.

Paddle leash
Secure your paddle to your kayak with an easy to use bungy cord. There is a velcro strip on the one side and a small clip on the other.

Deckbags

Features:
Choose from three sizes
Large zippered opening
Contoured to shed water and stay on deck
No less than 4 (or 5 for the large bag) attachments points
Additional mesh pocket with Velcro closure

Rudders & Deckfittings

The Kaskazi Rudder
rudder.jpg (3907 bytes)A three-piece rudder that is a work of art.
Features:
Only 3 parts
CNC Machined HDPE
Aluminium Rudder Blade
Pin mounted
Retracts fully on to rear deck
One handed uphaul and downhaul that cannot snag or jump off.

We also sell the rudder as a complete system, from the actual rudder to the decklines, rudderlines and fully adjustable pedal systems. The rudder meachnism is very popular with wooden boat builders as this is also aesthetically the most pleasing rudder.
